Scenr detect for Avi files

i have started doing some work for a guy and he hands me jobs on a portable hard drive. he captures them without using scene detection so im stuck doing extra work.

i am just wondering if anyone knows of a program that can detect scenes and split the avi files or if i can do it in premier?

cheers Dany.

I don't think there's a way for Premier to split scenes after the video has been captured to the hard drive. I know that HDVSplit will do it for HDV files, but not for SD so someone here might know of a tool that can handle SD.

The easiest way would be to ask the guy you get the drive from to turn on scene detection in whatever tool he uses to acquire the footage. One mouse click could save you potentially hours in post processing.

Actually, I've come to personal conclusion that I prefer tapes captured in one take. It saves you from going nuts doubleclicing tens and hundreds of clips in the Bin. And you can always make subclips.

Try working with single file - you might be actually surprised how much faster it can be.There are of course occasions, like slated takes of a feature film, where detection makes more sense.
