lossless HPX Conversion
Hey Guys/Gals.....
I need to know the best settings to convert from .mxf (specifically HPX170) to .mov files. shot in 720p 24 frames Settings I think I know are correct..... Premiere Pro CS4 Export settings Format - Quicktime Preset - NTSC DV Wide-screen 24P Video Codec - at a loss here...... Are any of the above correct? |
Well,
The quicktime setting is correct. The "NTSC DV" setting sets you up for 720x486 SD video. I'm guessing you don't want to shoot HD and then compress to SD, but maybe I am not reading you right. For a codec, choose QT Uncompressed, QT PNG Lossless, QT PhotoJpeg at 100% quality. But if you want to stay HD, I think you better fix your second setting. |
Thanks for the quick response..
But.. there is no option under the codecs for QT uncompressed?? Yes, wanting to stay HD, possibly re-size to clients needs. Sorry for my video editing illiteracy.... |
It's been quite some time since I've been in Premiere, so hopefully someone who has the save version as you will come to your aid.

What version of Premiere are you on?
In CS3 and later (I think it began in 3), you should use the Export with the "adobe media encoder". This will allow you to export in quicktime uncompressed. Frame rate, frame size, and compression codec are all adjustable within the quicktime menu selection. |
CS4,
but my question, or ignorance is what codec to use? Nothing I do gets even close to an uncompressed output..... |
What are you going to do with this file when you finish?
Store it on hard drive? Write to Blu-Ray, save to DVD? Will you use it as a master? I can't recommend a codec, until we know what the purpose is. |
sending a DVD of unedited footage to an editor.
For some reason he can not open the .mxf files in FCP? |

no, only about 4 minutes, using the footage for a TV comm.

Well Uncompressed is not an option then. So: QT PhotoJpeg at 100% quality Avid DNxHD QT PNG (Best) QT Blackmagic (PC) or AJA (Mac) Those would be my choices, and probably in that order. |
Thanks for your help!
