kind of RAM

Hi everyone,

I edit lots of HDV footage with Premiere and even though my machine is quite fast, I'd like it to be even faster:

Asus 4core1600P35
Quadcore 9550
nvidia 512mb
Velociraptor 300gb + another 2 HD
4gb DDR2 800 RAM
Vista 64bit

I'm very happy with the computer but I think that I should upgrade to 8gb of RAM. Now, my motherboard does take up to 8gb DDR2 1066 or 4gb DDR3 1333. My question is about choosing the best combination of RAM in terms of performance and price.

Should I upgrade with just another 4gb of DDR2 800 (£40). Should I get 8gb of DDR2 1066(£90) or should I just get 4gb of DDR3 (£73)?
would I notice the difference in between having 8gb DDR2 800 and 8gb DDR2 1066?

Well, I hope that I've made sense at all in here

thanxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!!!!

I believe your board is a ASROCK, not an ASUS.

I would buy the 8GB 1066 DDR2 kit vs the 4GB DDR3. I didn't see an appreciable gain in performance between the DDR3 and DDR2 until I reached 1600MHz and you probably won't get there with your board. You're using 64bit so it can utilize more than 4GB, and that gain you will notice, especially with multiple processes open. If you were on XP I would use the 4GB DDR3 1333, because that's all it sees.

If you buy a binned set of 8GB you will have a much better chance of getting them to run at 1066 and you may even be able to overclock to 1333. If you try and buy another 4GB, sometimes you can get them to run the same but it can be a crapshoot. Having 8gb running at 667 wouldn't make you happy, I'm sure. Not sure how many dollars 50 pounds is, so that you will have to decide.

Just curious, I noticed I don't have a pound symbol on my keyboard, (not that I would use it much) but is it located above the 4 on your keyboard?
