Exporting HDV video frames to photoshop
 

I have HDV footage (1440x1080) in 16:9 and I am looking to export certain frames of it, from premiere, to then edit in photoshop. I can't seem to find the proper frame export settings so that my aspect ratio is maintained when I import the images into photoshop.

What are the basic rules of exporting frames from premiere into photoshop?

Actually, you don't import it into Photoshop already fixed, you use Photoshop to do the fixing. Set pixel aspect ratio to square, import the 1440x1080, do image size> 1920x1080, bicubic, then deinterlace and you're good to go. edit: nope, file wouldn't upload. Second thought, here, do you want to maintain the 1440x1080? The files will import into photoshop as such, although Photoshop will sometimes try to show non-square pixels as square pixels (without changing the actual file). This makes the image look like 1920x1080 even though it is, underneath, still 1440. This function is controlled by view>pixel aspect ratio correction and image>pixel aspect ratio correction.

I was able to correct this problem by simply resizing the image to 1920x1080. I am still a bit confused as to the nature of the pixel aspect ratio and frame aspect ratio.

Is it the case that a 1440x1080 image with a pixel AR of 1.33 has the same frame AR (16:9) as a 1920x1080 image with a square pixel aspect ratio or are these images in some important way different?

HDV at 1440x1080 is expressing a 1920x1080 image by using rectangular pixels so the image, uncorrected, looks "squooshed." The purpose of the image resize is to express the image undistorted in square pixels. Your question was how to fix the image before importing into photoshop, the answer is that you don't, you use photoshop to fix the distortion....hth/ bvaughan
