Its not supported due to having 495MB and not the required 765MB but the GTX275 will be!

Tomorrow I'll be running at standard i7 speeds then over the next couple of days will be running at 4GHz.

Finally will have a decent PC for editing.

Cheers Harm

David,

I'll add your data to the results and send them on to Bill.

By softmod I mean a simple "hack" to make CS5 believe you have a certified MPE card. I did that with my video card and reduced my rendering time from 14 to 3 seconds. Here is a link to some instructions, although it has been posted here as well: Adobe Forums: Unsupported GPU for CS5

This may be informative as well: Adobe Forums: Overclocking the i7, a beginners guide

New PC is here and at standard I'm getting:

28.9, secs Total Benchmark Time
12.4, secs AVI Encoding Time
10.5, secs MPEG Elapsed Time
6, secs Rendering Time

Not even OC'd it yet!

David,

That is great to hear! Congrats.

Once you have your system fully tuned and running, send me the latest results and I will include them as well. Do make sure you fill out the technical specs on the new system.

With CS5 + MPE my video plays in RT - Old PC I had to render it which took ages (6-8hrs) Even without the MPE still plays in RT. Shows the redbar in Pr though

So Impressed with the i7 setup.

Will do Harm - Upgrading my RAID from SATA 1 drives to SATA 2 drives so I'm hoping that will bring down the AVI result.

Getting a couple of odd results with MPE turned on:

4GHZ OC with No MPE:

32.3, secs Total Benchmark Time
5.4, secs AVI Encoding Time
6.9, secs MPEG Elapsed Time
20, secs Rendering Time

And with MPE on

23.1, secs Total Benchmark Time
8.1, secs AVI Encoding Time
8, secs MPEG Elapsed Time
7, secs Rendering Time

Now I'm using the GTX 275 and looking at CPU-Z the card seems to be changing its clock speed to suit power requirements. I want it running 100% all the time.

Any ideas how to turn off the clock down off?

David,

What you experienced here is something a number of people have seen and I have no explanation for it.

What we see when people run the PPBM4 benchmark test on the same hardware with CS4 and CS5 they find that the AVI test takes about twice as long under CS5 with MPE turned off and nearly 4 times as long when MPE is turned on.

For example my results:

CS4: 1.4
CS5: 2.9 with MPE off
CS5: 5.4 with MPE on

If anybody has a logical explanation, I would like to hear is.

Its the GFX card that is being clocked down.

Download CPU-Z and you will see the speed differences.

Mine is flicking from

CORE: 300mhz
SHADERS: 600mhz
MEM: 100mhz

to:

633mhz
1404mhz
1131mhz

Pretty sure is will cause the slow lag

David,

This does not explain the deterioration from 1.4 to 2.9 with an ATI card, just by the move from CS4 to CS5.

CPU-Z does not show any changes in Core, Shaders or Memory, they remain stable at 721, 1442 and 1880 MHz. Is there any way to allow for real time updates to the display of CPU-Z, or are you talking about GPU-Z?

Not sure about the ATI card setup.

Here is what CPUZ is telling me - cpuz.png is the standard use with no 3d stressing. 01 is with it stressed a little and you can see the clock speed has gone to full speed.

And 02 is the meant to turn off this down clocking.

GPU Z causes the card to run at full speed. Have CPU and GPU Z open and close GPUZ and watch the rates return to lower clockl?

David Dwyer June 7th, 2010 05:54 AM

Well as a little test I ran the PPBM4 while GPUZ was open forcing the card to run at full speed - Confirmed in CPUZ

MPE on with GPUZ Open:

21.9, secs Total Benchmark Time
8, secs AVI Encoding Time
7.9, secs MPEG Elapsed Time
6, secs Rendering Time

MPE without

23.1, secs Total Benchmark Time
8.1, secs AVI Encoding Time
8, secs MPEG Elapsed Time
7, secs Rendering Time

So maybe the down clocking of the GPU isnt effecting it and its something else?

Makes no difference here.
