Getting rid of Axio LE - what is a good, affordable replacement I/O box?

I want to sell the Axio LE/8800GTS to buy a Quadro 5800 for MPE, but I'll be missing the breakout box. Are there affordable solutions out there? Thanks for any help you can provide.

HP xw8400 w/ dual Xeon 5335 2GHz - 12GB RAM - Windows 7 64-bit, if that matters.

Did you look at the Grass Valley/Canopus ADVC 110 or 300?

Jim Kunz May 1st, 2010 11:50 AM

Thanks Harm, I did look at those but I think I need one step up. I was hoping to find something closer to the ADVC700 for under $1000 - I'm sure it's wishful thinking.

I mostly do a lot of SD/HD capture through the SDI and Component in, with component out handling the preview monitor.

Why spend almost $3,500 on a single video card when you can buy a new HP Z800 with dual quads and a GTX285 for the same amount of money? Heck, sell you current HP and then you can get dual 6 core and a FX 3800. (this is what I just ordered and paid $5500 including 24GB of ram)

Look at the numbers here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_11761.html

In all the 3D tests, the 5800 barely beats the 4800.

And about the topic, Blackmagic has their Decklink Studio for $600-700 and the Extreme version for $1000. Or there is the Aja Kona/Xena LHe for $1100 & LHi for $1200(adds HDMI in/out). If this is an immediate need, see which one has CS5 support first.

MXO2 LE is $1k, add in a h264 acceleration encoder on board for another $400 or so

I forgot to mention that the Matrox MXO2 'Max' versions can provide MPE hardware acceleration. For some reason, this is a little known fact.

However, MXO2 and Premiere don't mix well, especially if you use 2 computer monitors. I still have the Mini but only used it for 2 days due to all the problems I was having.
