HELP! Blu-Ray to DVD (Encore CS4)

Hi all

i'll try and keep this brief and simple.

Edited a wedding a while ago, rendered out as avi and wrote to DVD with Encore, 1hr23 long. (automatic transcode settings)

I now have blu-ray capabilities, so went back to the project, exported to 1440x1080 mpeg blu-ray.
Wrote a Blu-Ray - absolutely fine.

Then changed the blu-ray option in Encore to DVD, but not it won't fit on a DVD?!! (it's trying to get 5.22GB on to a 4.7GB DVD!).

Why won't it fit anymore??? Is it, or it is not, using automatic transcode settings?

HELP! am i really going to have to author a DVD from start to finish? I was hoping i could do it simply (write a Blu-Ray, then select DVD)

cheers

DVD does not allow BR material. It is not in the specs.

It is like you had a Fiat 500 (DVD) and upgraded to a Suburban (BR), but want to stuff everything that fits in the Suburban (BR) in that Fiat. It won't fit, the suspension won't hold it, the brakes are too small and the engine can't pull it.

ok, but with Encore CS4, you can construct a Blu-Ray project, but then simply select DVD and it'll downscale your footage to DVD format.

i.e. in Blu-Ray mode it writes a 16GB blu-ray, and in DVD mode it goes down to 5GB

If it downscales to DVD size, what is the sense of going to BR in the first place? Keep it in DVD format, as you already have.

sorry i didn't explain myself well. my clients need a blu-ray of their wedding edit, plus extra DVDs....hence my need to crack/understand this method

update: i've played the DVD (i forced it to finish writing even though the error came up about the disc not being big enough), and the film ends with only a few mins to go.... but still, i should be able to get more than 1hr20 on to a DVD...

cheers

Richard,

You have selected a disc size of 4.7 GB on the build menu. Not custom or 8.54 GB dual layer.

Greg - cheers, i know what you mean, but i'm just using a standard 4.7GB DVD (not dual-layer etc)

UPDATE/FIXED!
- in the last few minutes i randomly thought to update my burner's firmware...and lo and behold the project claims it will now fit on a 4.7GB DVD with small room to spare. PHEW!

cheers

Hi Richard,
I'm glad firmware update works for you but mine doesn't, Encore CS5 does the same thing and firmware update won't still work for me, so I ended up using custom preset and assigned the specific bit rates instead.
