Extend Edit in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5

Hi Gang,
I just wrote a blog about using the extend edit function (AKA "Trimming with the Current-Time Indicator") in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. Are you using this feature?

Tell me what you think: Using the Extend Edit Function in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 by Kevin Monahan

I think it's a heck of a lot faster then using the Rolling Edit tool in most situations. When editing on other NLEs, this is one of the tools I look for first because it's such a time saver. This is especially so when aligning graphical and text elements to a clip on multiple tracks or floating the start or end of a b-roll section. Works wonders on multiple audio tracks too.

More about Extend Edit

Let me know if you need any help or clarification in understanding this feature.

Hmm, no one uses the Extend Edit technique? Wondering...

I use it daily in Premiere Pro CS5 and am indeed very glad to have this time saving feature.

This very feature is one i really missed in earlier versions since i use a keyboard driven workflow. So, thanks for Extend Edit and for the blog with the "how-to-use"!

Cool Roger, thanks for the feedback!

I'm obviously a bit dim, but could you give me an idea of how you use this feature as I've not come across it before?

HI Paul,
Do you use the Rolling Edit tool? If you can understand a roll trim, you are doing the same thing as an extend edit - you're just moving the edit point between 2 clips.

•To do a roll trim with the Rolling Edit tool, you click and drag with the tool to the left or right to change the position of the edit point.

•To do a roll trim using the extend edit function, you move the CTI where you wish to roll to, and then press a keyboard shortcut to move the edit point to the CTI.

Perhaps a video tutorial would better serve you. I'll look into creating one.
