For future reference, you could use Transparent video clips above the originals and apply the TC effect to the transparent clips. Then, it is as simple as un-checking the layer with the transparent clips.

Re: Regular Crashes in Premiere CS5 - Remove Effects=Crash

Steve,
That's exactly how I did it, by going through the EFFECTS CONTROLS window, and it is significantly more reliable. However, it does still occasionally crash. So I went through the project, removing the effects, cut by cut of every clip in the timeline, and saving after I successfully get through three. That way, when it would crash, I only lost a few minutes of work.

Thank you for the offer to help out - I appreciate it greatly! Luckily, after doing the process above (over the course of a very long couple of hours, I was able to remove all the effects I needed to. So the problem is gone. Not solved, just gone. If I encounter it more, I\'ll send you a PM and let you know.

I have Win7 on Bootcamp and even have a license to CS5 for Windows but have used up all the allowed installs on my other dedicated Windows machines so don\'t have a spare to install on the Bootcamp drive of my Mac. I suppose I could download a trial...

Bart,
I have zero knowledge of XMLs. In fact, my technological knowledge is limited. My interest is in the creative side of things and the technical stuff is just the annoying complicated part for me. So when things like this happen, I\'m kind of at a loss.

My main concern now is, if I continue to edit and finish this project and all the while, there is a corruption in the project file, what impact will that have on the finished product, on sending the project to a colorist/sound editor/designer/etc.

I would hate for it to all have been for nought.

Steve again,
I like your idea of transparent video, but I use the original source file timecode in the timecode effect, in which case, I don\'t think the timecode would match, would it?

John, exporting to XML/EDL to a colorist should be fine. It looks more like a bug. Perhaps it you could file a bug report, so that they are aware of this issue.

If you create a new project, pull in a single clip, put it on timeline and apply the effect, do you still get a crash when you try to remove it?
