FCP User to PPR - Moving Audio Problem
 

So I'm transitioning from FCP7 to PPR CS 5.5. I've been doing my fair share of training and reading. One thing I've stumbled upon and I can't figure out for the life of me.

So in PPR timeline I've copied some audio and video into a sequence. I want to use the audio as voice-over only and have deleted the video. The audio resides on track 3. For some reason I can't move the audio from track 3. Its stuck there. I can slide it left and right but I can't move it to track 1. Its driving me crazy since I like my sequences organized. Any help would be appreciated.

In PPro, the audio tracks have a default format. If you import a stereo track to Track 1, It will be a stereo track subsequently. If you then import a mono clip, PPro will create a mono track and put your audio there. However, you can right click on an audio track header, select delete track, then delete empty tracks, and track 3 will become track 1 (assuming you don't have any other occupied tracks).

You can freely move audio from one track to another if the track format matches the format of the audio...that is, you can move a stereo clip to a different stereo track but not a mono track. Yes, I am a former FCP user and I don't understand it either, it's just a Premiere-thang..........

Glad to help. There are some things in Premiere that just are not as intuitive as FCP, but all in all it gets the job done. The on-line help files, the Adobe TV tutorials and Lynda.com have a wealth of info. You can download the help files, btw....I downloaded them and dropped them in a desktop folder so I can get to them easily....
