Adobe Compression

When compressing on Adobe Premiere Pro the compressed video seems to to be about a stop darker than when it was before compressing. Why does this happen? What can be done to avoid it?

Did you happen to use QuiRcktime to encode? There is a reason for that name, the gamma shift that QuiRcktime introduces. You may be better off and faster with using H.264 for your encodes.

Re: Adobe Compression

It's always seemed to me that Quicktime lightened, rather than darkening, the original, but maybe because the originals were done in FCP with quicktime and then looked light if played back with QT for PC....

Whatever, I have a D7000, if you want to let us know what your compression type and setting are, I'll see what I can experiment with, if you like.
