Import MXF files and PPro 5.0

When I attempt to import MXF files from my new PMW-200, PPro crashes. The files are 422 50.

It has happened 4 times in a row.

Any ideas from anyone is appreciated.

I have a I7 CPU, 8 gig of ram, using windows 7

Just guessing here, but CS5 may be too old to support these very new file formats. If you encounter this problem even after updating to 5.03, it may be time to upgrade to CS6, where MXF support works flawless, at least from Canon XF series. Haven't tried the PMW-200 material yet, but it is probably closely related.

Premiere Pro 5.0 offers XDCAM HD422 in the sequence selection. That makes me think PP 5.0 is useable for codec. I can load "some" MXF footage on the timeline. But after I do, the physical memory skyrockets to 5.31 gig....and that is with only 7 minutes of footage.

Your amount of memory is a weak point for sure. But whether that causes your problems? How do you import? Copying the complete BPAV directory and importing from that with the Media Browser?

There is not a "BPAV" directory. The only folders are 'Clip List", "User Data", Planning".

This is a XDCAM 422 50 mbps file

I just tried a .MXF clip in PP CS5 and it worked fine, but it is possible that it is using codecs that were installed with PP CS6.

8Gb is definitely pushing your luck. Your system is not dissimilar to me previous setup, and that was struggling with H.264 footage from a Canon 1DMK4.

This is what happens when PPro crashes. Picture below.

Problem solved....

PPro (C.S. 6.0) has solved the problem, I was using CS 5.0...5.0 might handle .mxf files, but not the 422 50 mbps.

Trevor, you are right about RAM. when I load 15 minutes, physical ram used is about 6 gig.
