Disc to youtube
 

I wish to upload a video to YouTube and unfortunately I have only got a BD disc and a DVD disc containing my video having wiped the hard drive. Using CS5 premiere Pro is it possible to transfer one of the discs back into the timeline of of premiere pro or onto the harddrive so that I can upload to youtube.

Is it your own disc? If so you can just copy the vts files off the dvd, join them together in premiere if necessary and then encode for youtube. vts files are simply mpeg2 files with a different file extension. Sometimes the files get split because of the limitations of the dvds files system but simply sticking them on a timeline in order will solve that.

Not sure about Blu-ray. You might be able to use imgburn to make an disc image on your drive and then use winrar to extract the iso into separate files. That's assuming your windows based like I am.

You need the vob's which are within the video-ts file. But first copy the entire disk to hdd before importing.
If the vob's wont import change extention to mpg.
Assemble them in Premiere and export to a Youtube preset which is found under the H.264 format.

For Bluray you need the m2ts files found in the STREAM.

thanks to Michael Bradshaw and Ann Bens for the info. I have followed Ann's instructions and have transfered the video, which is my own production, to the timeline of Premeire pro 5. However I have another problem. I have exported the video from the timeline as an H264 format file for uploading to you tube and it has resulted in placing two seperate folders on the hard drive, one for picture and one for sound. I don't know how to combine these tracks while trying to upload to you tube. As soon as I select the picture track for uploading, You Tube immediately starts the process and I can't see anyway to add the audio track If you can help me with this problem it will be gratefully apreciated.

Did you perhaps choose "H.264 Blu-ray"? That is the only one that should make separate audio and video files, since that is what Encore expects. Check your preset.

thanks Jeff for your advice. Yes I did choose the H264 blu-ray. But since then I have tried Mpeg 4 with the same result.

You need the H.264 format.
Youtube preset. Not sure if PP5 has one.

Ann. I used the H264 format and that's the format that split the image from the sound.

There are H.264 and H.264 bluray. You need the first this will give the mp4 extention.

Thanks again Ann Bens. I have now made sure that I selected H264 and I have now successfully uploaded the result to You Tube.
