Learning Premiere

As a recovering Sony Vegas user, I've been using FCPX for the past several years. But FCPX is not fast editing for me since the constant background editing is something to scream at.

I fiddled with Premiere a year ago, but I would like to learn it the right way, especially since I'm a multicam editor, I want to learn the best way.

Does anyone have links for good online video training? Thank you in advance.

You can turn off background rendering.

The slowest thing I’ve found about multi cam is if you have too many streams, 4K, or a codec that your hardware can’t handle. Since that’s a hardware issue you might be disappointed using Premiere. I’ve used both Premiere and FCP and while Premiere has things like key frame controls of speed and exposure that I wish FCP had, there are many things I don’t care for.

Premiere has a very clunky interface with legacy code that crashes, and isn’t well optimized for new hardware and then there’s the subscription. But many people go through what I call the grass is greener syndrome where they know everything they dislike about what they’re using and have an overly rose view of software they don’t know.

Premiere has many pros but I wouldn’t put speed or ease of use at the top of that list. Like most things you have to find out for yourself and the type of work you do what software is better suited for you.

There are learning subscriptions like Lynda.com that are good.

Thanks Pete,

This is what I'm dealing with. https://www.dvinfo.net/forum/high-de...ml#post1962583

I have a nice iMac Pro with really good specs, and Apple after a month and half, can't figure out why my lag is so bad with multicam. It really slows my editing. We've tried almost everything, including have the guys at an Apple store try to fix my issue.

I just can't deal with the mulitcam lag, it's pretty bad. I can post a video sample if needed. ;]

I've turned off background editing and it gets worse.

Oh I remember that thread. So are you planning on running Premiere on the Mac or buy a new PC? If you install trial of Premiere on the Mac and it runs slow too (I can't imagine it wouldn't) then what? Did you do a clean install? Some times it can be a simple thing. Like on my Mac I added USB 3 card long ago and Apple has a unique locking mechanism that I didn't properly install. So when I plugged usb devices it would cause the card to shift in the PCI slot, triggering random crashes. Once secured the problem stopped. It's still a slow computer but I digress.

If I were you, I'd find out what the trade in value is to Apple and move on to the new Apple silicone.

Hey Pete,

I already pay for premiere through their subscription. As for trading in the mac, what bothers me is I did my due diligence, my specs should scream, but with multicam viewing, it is so chunky. So I have no faith a new machine, would be better. Since Apple told me this machine would work before I bought it.
