Do i need an NLE when i have AE?
 

If sum1 please explain me why on earth i need Vegas or PP or any other NLE of that class if i can do everything and much more in AE itself? Or am i missing something? What lets say Vegas can do that AE cant. As far as i know AE has timeline, transitions, CC, graphics, cool titling, effects, mighty composing and motion tracking toolset, rendering out. So why i need an NLE?

You can edit in AE, it's just a royal PITA. You'll work much quicker with a NLE. It's what they're meant to do. AE just isn't designed for it.

Non-linear editors like Vegas/Premiere Pro/etc. are primarily designed for one thing: efficient editing. Compositors like After Effects are primarily designed for another task entirely: compositing. The two tasks are different, and the interfaces and timelines of each respective class reflect this. I've used both Premiere Pro and After Effects, and I can tell you honestly, I wouldn't dream of trying to edit in After Effects. It's just not designed to do that. It does what it does do (compositing) superbly, and I wouldn't want to be without it, but when it comes to editing, a NLE editor is an absolute must.

My advice is to get a good NLE first (unless you are very sure video is the thing you want to do and plan on getting the Adobe video bundle). Learn the NLE editor first. You'll know when you are ready to get into a compositor like After Effects.

When you do step into After Effects, you’ll see the that although it does have a timeline, as does a NLE editor, the timelines (and the rest of the programs) are definitely different compared to each other. When I first started using After Effects, I was frustrated and wondered why it couldn’t have a timeline like Premiere. But now that I’ve used After Effects for a while I see and appreciate why it’s designed the way it is.

i ve been using Vegas and i love it to death...well i like it for real and very comfy with it, dont really wanna switch to PP or anything else for that matter. So now that im starting with AE just the thought of constant rendering in and out btwn these apps makes the workflow overly complicated. Guess with better planning i might be ok, or will get used to it.
But i still hope that maybe , just maybe, AE will let me do both the NLE stuff and effects.

You might be able to save a little bit of time by:

A- Frameserving out of Vegas. Satish designed tool and you can download it for free from his website somewhere.
You don't have to wait for something to render out of Vegas.

B- Bring AE clips back in as takes. Right click-drag the clips from Explorer onto an event in the Vegas timeline. Select add as take.
I'm not sure if takes would really help for you.

C- The following tool can import EDLs into AE:

Vegas can also do basic effects work.
