Liam,

Please provide detailed information. No one can give you a clear answer with the info you provided.

- what settings are you using?
- what is your system spec?
- what programs do you have running in the backgound? antivirus etc
- at what point is it glitching?
- what happens if you try it with a new clip, or project?
- how much free space do you have on the drive you are exporting to?
- describe the glitching?
etc....

These should hopefully lead us to some further clues.

The more info you can provide the better someone might be able to help.

Thanks,

Well this is what i got..

Here it goes...

the settings that i am using is a standard pal 48Hz preset/ 4:3 interlaced.

system spec is xp 2.8 p4 1gb ram

progs running in the background are just zonealarm. many of the process's i stopped on msconfig.

the problem really is on playback its just blocky and glitches. also when i am exporting it tells me that the file size will be 19mb but the actual file size that i get is 16.6mb or it differ's

i have about 4gb left on my Hdd and the glitching is just big square blocks. a few at a time.

if you need anymore info just say.

thanks for ya time!!!

Don't know what size your hard drive is, but 4 gig open is way too little a reserve! Way too little!!! Any computer will get unstable at that level. Get a plug-in drive, get rid of some junk or something.

Hdd

My drive is 80gb at the moment and i have a 160 internal that i need to get a enclosure for. and ive cleard out everything that i dont need. could my limited disk space be a reason for the glitching?

If you have a 80gb hard drive and only have 4gb free, your computer will definately have problems and be unstable. The computer shuffles info around in ram and on the hard drive. If you look at the drive itself, such as analizing the drive before defragging, you will see that there is info stashed all over the place, and no big blocks open. Even defragging will not save you as some files will be unmovable.

I don't know why some of the PC experts haven't jumped in here, as I am surely no expert, but low resources on your hard drive will make it very unstable.

Get another bigger drive.

I have always been told to keep at least 20% of harddrive space free all the time especially when editing, but is also true for playing back video. I don't know the techno stuff but that just seems to be the norm.

Have you tried playing the Mpeg file back on another machine, do you get the same problems? if it plays back bad on the other machine then it would point to the encoding process.

Cheers,

Thanks.

Thanks guys. it makes more sense now that you told me. i never thought of the hdd as having files all over it ive always just thought that if i had 40gb free it would be free with nothing in between it. if you know what i mean. but i know what you mean so that makes sense.

i havent been able to play it back on another machine yet so still have that to do. and thanks for the help.
