exporting problems
 

I have P Pro (not 2.0, but will be upgrading in a week or so). I have a 43 minute video I'm trying to export. I have no problem when I export as AVI using the "export movie" command. The problem is that the file generated is 8gigs (is that possible!?)! When I try to export as M2 it always stops at the same point and says that "Adobe failed to return a frame and will now discontinue operation".

I intend to get Quicktime Pro (as soon as I get a chance to buy it). I assume I can use my large AVI file and make some other format file once I buy QTPro. Is that the way to go? I have heard generally bad things about the Adobe Media Encoder.

Another question: Regarding where the project sits, where the media for that project sits, and where to export to... My project is on my C drive. Media for the project is on a larger storage drive (250g). Which drive should I be exporting to?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I assume your project is in standard definition - in which case 8 GB for 43 minutes of AVI video is perfectly fine; generally an hour of DV-AVI is around 12-13 GB.

The real question for you is: what is your target? You are trying to reduce the size of your video... why? What will you be playing it on? Why do you need to go the QT route? IMHO Windows Media looks better at the same compression rate.

Come back with all this info. As far as exporting, you can export to any drive. Exporting to a drive other than the one running your OS and programs will give you a somewhat better speed (arguably) depending on your configuration.

yep the 8 gig file size is about right. avi will probaly take less time to export because that is what premiere uses as a base format for capturing. yes you can export it to any drive but one other than your os drive would be preforable. exporting to dvd would be your best bet if your trying to get it on some type of external media, other than tape. but ya more information would be nice ;p

I only want to burn to DVD (but will always keep a tape master copy). I've always exported to MPEG2, then imported to Encore to burn to DVD . On my new (to me) machine I can't seem to export to MPeg2. How do I fit a 8GB AVI file on an 4.7GB DVD?

I don't know if I need to use Quicktime. Some have suggestd it for MPEG4 and H.264.


Bottom line is that I want to fit as much video of the highest quality possible onto DVD.

Thanks! I checked the link and I don't have time to try it right now, but I think updating the Adobe Media Encoder should do it. I'll post and let you know how it worked. Thanks again.
