MIXING IT UP.... audio mixing in premiere

Hello All,

I'm in the process of mixing the audio for a film I'm working on in Premiere Pro 1.5. I have audio from the video clips themselves, music, and narration... when I'm in premiere, or export to an AVI and watch it my computer, it sounds okay... last night I burned a test copy and watched it on TV, and the music is way too loud at some spots, and the narration is too low...

Therefore... while actively working on a project... what is the best way to monitor sound while editing? Are there certain settings for Windows XP that should be used that will be nominal for TV? When I watch it in premiere, I keep the master audio meters up, and everything goes between -6 and -12...

any suggestions?

thanks!!

I do most of my levels work after my wife goes to bed. I use my speakers at a level where it won't wake her up, but I can still hear it clearly.

In this way, I find that I notice louder and softer areas much easier. If it is too loud it makes me jump, and too low it annoys me and I have to turn it up.

Works for me. And it is better than using headphones.

That's a really good idea Steve, thanks... I'll try that today, I'll get the speakers hooked up.

I guess I'm thinking if I keep my computer volume and my speaker volume at 50% that is a good average? Where do you put the actual output volume of your computer?

Oh, I run all of my master tracks to max out at -6dB. I set up my speakes on a prerecorded -6dB tone and when I am comfortable with that, it continue working from that point.

By the way, that is MUCH quieter than 50% on my system. Something more like midrange on the speakers and 10% on the PC.
