Ext. Dialog... AKG CK98 or AT4073a?

My budget for an exterior mic is $500ish and my top two contenders for outside dramatic dialog from a Rycote fur covered blimp on a carbon fiber boom going into a Marantz PMD670 is either an AKG CK98 or AT4073a...

Which would you prefer and why?

Thanks,
Lonnie

(yes, i already have the 300b module for the AKG - i use the ck93 for interiors. the blimp, fur, boom, suspension, recorder are already part of the arsenal, the $500ish is just for the mic..)

I haven't used the SE300b and the Blue Line capsule that you have, however I do have the C480b and the CK62 and CK63 capsules of the higher ULS line. I also have the AT4073a and the AT4053a.
I would vote for getting the AT4073a so that you could have two complete mics at all times. I also think that the AT4073a would perform better and it is physically shorter and easier to handle yet still has a fairly narrow pattern.
One significant difference is their sensitivity. The AT4073a is a very high output mic. If you work in situations or with equipment that call for less output from the mic, or if you really prefer the sound you're getting already with the Blue Line you have, then I'd consider the CK98. Otherwise I'd get the AT (and an attenuator for loud situations).

thank you Jay!

Yeah, your thought on actually having two different mics is a good one. And this way I could also wire a hyper and a shot gun simultaneously and record to two seperate tracks for safety - or did i just invent something crazy...

thanks again,
Lonnie
