making audio cds from Dv cassettes
 

I just came back from a beautiful little adventure called the Mighoma Festival in our native Gabon. During the week, we had the opportunity to film various musicians (a saxophonist, guitars, traditional Gabonese musicians, and singers). Live it was a special experience, but now I'm sorting through the tapes and wondering the best way to get this music on to cds. I edit films with Final Cut pro, but haven't tried to make a "music only" project. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

PS - (Next time we hope to record our audio separate from the video!)

Well, you can export an audio file, like AIFF and open in ProTools, or your choice of audio editing programs. I'm assuming your have your audio at 48k from using a camera. At some point you will need to do a sample rate conversion to 44.1k for CD.

Capture and Edit as normal in FCP. When the project is finished File>Export>Audio to AIFF>16 Bit 44.1K Stereo.
Drag the resulting file into an iTunes Playlist and burn an Audio CD.

The only caveat here is if you do this, you end up with one track. If you want each song to be separate tracks, you'll need to import the audio into a tool that allows you to set track markers. You can do this in most two-channel audio applications such as:

Or just "Cut" out each Track and Paste into a New Sequence.
After you wind up with a bunch of Sequences, you can Select them all in the Browser and perform a Batch Export.
