Wireless lav with XLR jacks: is there such an item?
I'm already planning for the day I have a camera with xlr jacks. Is there a wireless lav set up that comes with xlr jacks?
I've seen photos of the Sennheiser G2 on the web and some appear to have xlr cables, yet the specs don't speak to it. If there is no such product, how are people adapting from wireless with mini plug to xlr (using something like a Beechtek I presume). Does quality suffer? Thanks |

The G2 comes with 2 output cables, one for XLR and the other mini TRS |
The Sennheiser Wireless G2 series camera mounted receivers include an XLR cable which works well.
If you have Sennheiser Wireless, generation 1, you can purchase or make an XLR output cable. (Steve and I were both answering your question at the same time.) |

when you mean XLR, you probably means symmetrical signal (that is what XLR are made for) versus minijack (assymetrical by nature).
the only advantage of symmetrical connection over symmetrical is it supports longer (much longer) cables. Symmetrical cables can support 15 feet, that is often more than enough in video world, while in the audio world, 2 or 3 times this length is very usual. for a wireless receiver with 5 inches of cable between the cam and the receiver, this has absolutely no impact. on the other hand, XLR can accept symmetrical input too if the plug is properly wired. |
