xlr cables

Just purchased my first xlr adaptor for my vx2100 and was shopping for xlr cables. I will be connecting to a sound board from time to time so do I need a male to male or male to female cable?

Male-to-female XLR cables will be needed for almost any kind of connection. The convention is that a male XLR connector outputs audio, whereas the female XLR connector takes the sound from a source (microphone, sound board, ...). So a soundboard would have a male XLR connector for its mix out port (it produces the sound), into which you plug the female end of an XLR cable (taking the sound into the cable).

You may also want to get an adaptor for 1/4" TRS (male) to XLR (male) because some soundboards only offer that type of connection. Or the XLR for the main mix output might already be in use, but there may be 1/4" phone plugs for aux mix or effects sends that you can tap into.

Gotham Audio in Nazareth had some really nice GAC-3 NOS cable last month. Wonderful stuff they found a while back on a reel in E. Germany.

I bought 4-5 lengths with connectors.
