Which mic?
 

I need a mic for primarily booming outside but some inside. I have a decent mid range arsenal
a NTK for voice overs
a NT3 for indoor booming (I know it's heavy)
a matched pair of NT5's for music
a ME 66
and two Senn EW's with countryman lav's

Although I'm happy with the NT3 and NTK I've noticed that since buying the SD702T at the urging of several members here (thanks btw, holy moley what a jump from a beachtek) that the ME 66 is a little tinny in some instances. I was leaning toward the schoeps and sanken at BH . . .

but they're out which I assume means that when the new ones come in they will be pricier which will nix the deal.

I know this is a subjective question but if you were you what would you get? Please reply quick before it's out of stock.

There are many good choices for your situation - it ultimately comes down to your personal taste and need. Perhaps the Schoeps CMIT5u would be the most flexible for you needs, but it would be nice if it came back in stock before the price goes up. After listening to the sound samples, I think I could be happy with several choices.

I've read Dan's article about twenty times. It's fabulous. Since getting the SD702t I've become a sound junkie and it's great to read about people with even worse habits than myself. I've been recording everything. Birds, dogs, my three-year old eating at breakfast, my neighbor singing on her guitar . . . and I still shoot on an HV20.
Yesterday I had to interview a Doctor for a doc and he was taken back by how small the HV20 was and so I showed him previous work on my laptop. When I told him the cameras price, he wanted to know the make and model so he could buy one. Anyway, maybe I shouldn't but I really trust people's opinions on here. I've found the pros opinions on matters like these have been spot on everytime and even better than my own ideas as my ears catch up to the technology I'm acquiring.
I used to think my beachtek was way more than I needed and I guess it was but now . . .

You probably saw on the other thread, significant price increases are coming for all German made products so if you are thinking of a German mic, better buy it soon.

I've read through it multiple times (probably not 20), and have listened to the sound samples many times. I found it to be very useful. Ultimately I decided to start out with a Schoeps CMC641 which I just ordered from a site sponsor, before the price increase. I figure it is a good investment, will keep its value well, and won't be surpassed technologically soon, as most camcorders are. The sound of the Schoeps, especially with Dan's voice on axis interior, really stood out as being different from the rest of the mics to me.

Currently I'll run it through a SD 302 mixer into both my HV20 and also line level into a Sony Linear PCM 44.1/16 HiMD minidisc recorder. If I did this for a living, I'd probably step up to a SD 702, but I'd like to try the minidisc first to see how it works. It is sort of funny using a mic that currently is selling for about twice the price of an HV20. However with proper lighting the HV20 gives an incredible picture, and I'd like sound to match it.
