Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. As always the expert responses create as many new questions as answers. But since I'm by no stretch of the imagination a pro I think for the moment I'll skip the mixer. I shoot mostly documentary stuff with my HV20. It seems crazy the 702 costs three times as much as my camera but right now it's working. Just placed my second doc in another festival. There is no doubt in my mind that with my amateurish audio skills if were still trying to squeek good sound out of my beachtek and HV20 preamps the doc would not have made the cut.
