I strongly suggest getting the deadcat or muff that goes with it. It cuts down on popping (voice overs) and greatly reduces wind noise. Without it you will get wind noise even carrying it across a room.

It's very easy to use as well.

Thanks Pat, are you using any external mics? I am thinking about ordering one tomorrow with this external mic

I use the MicroTrack. I first bought the Marantz 660 (I think that's what it was, the small one), but it was way too noisy. I sent it back and got the Microtrack. You just plug it in, drag and drop the files. I got a couple of XLR-to-1/4' short cables to deal with the no-XLR issue. The quality is very good, but bring all menu-driven, it's a bit user unfriendly at first. Also, it has an internal rechargeable battery. I've never run it down while recording, but in most cases I've been able to plug into AC. I've used a variety of mics with it, including a Sennheiser MKH60, an old Sony shotgun, a Sennheiser G2 wireless, an old wired Sennheiser lav and even the stereo mic that's supplied with the recorder.

Hi Denny. I have used the Rode Videomic with the PCM-D50, and it sounds good. Hope you enjoy the Sony.
