I have those new Rycote shock mounts.. they came with the new S-series blimp. They are very good, very light weight unbreakable plastic..... but they don't look good. Looks like s@#$... works great!

My ? about both these mics is which will be less susceptible to room reflections?

I don't need extra off axis rejection (in terms of isolating the speaker from other talent or location sounds) b/c I'm doing interviews in living rooms. Presumably the only person who will be talking is the person I want to record.

And sometimes the mic will on a boomstand, so I actually like off axis pickup, not rejection, for when there's no boom operator to adjust for head movements.

But reflective environments can be a real problem. So I don't know if the 40's cardiod pattern picks up more reflections than the 50 does.

Also, do they have the same reach?

That should be my motto.

Like the tighter CMC 641 versus the CMC64, The 8050 will be less susceptible than the cardioid 8040.
