What mount do you use with your shotgun?
 

I'm about to buy a shotgun mic for use on my Camera (Canon GL2) hotshoe and I was curious as to what type of shock mounts people are using to support their mics?

I'm considering the AT835B or the Sennheiser ME66/K6...

Beyerdynamics makes a small profile shockmount model EA86, which is perfect for theses cameras. I would also recommend the use of a side bracket with a shoe mount, that will even further reduce camera noise (tape rolling, zoom etc.) and will also allow you to utilize the camera shoe mount for lights etc..

BTW: The length of the 835b may be a little to long for the GL-2 Camera, especially if you consider mounting it on the camera shoe mount (if you use a wide angle lens it may show up in the view)

Two problems using that mount and a Senn 66 if you use a wind screen. First is that it will tend to creep forward through the mount. If you don't catch it, it'll begin to show in the top of the frame. Second is that if you use a wide angle and are zoomed all the way out, it's in frame no mater what you do. I'm building a mount that holds it off to the side (frees hot shoe for VL3) and also mounts my wireless and XLR adpater.

Thanks for the input... I had assumed that these mics would not show up in frame as I had heard that many people were using the Azden SGM-2x in this configuration and its about 4 inches longer....

The idea of a bracket makes sense to free up the hot shoe (and I do use a wide angle), I was just hoping to keep things relatively compact for handheld shooting.

Are there any suitable commercial brackets that either of you care to recommend?

Just a quick reccommendation, if your worried about it being in the shot with a WA adapter, then buy one of them brackets from B&H for $12 that attach to the tripod mount and have a handle (extra sability) and have a accessory shoe on the top...

Thanks Alex! You've just solved a problem for me that I could have thought about for months (in fact I have!) - and the answer seems so simple I can kick myself in the butt for not thinking of it.

The Bescor VB50 Bracket adds two mounts instead of just one and is also a little more compact, but either bracket will do the job.
