DSR 450 audio echo
 

Hi there,

I hear (although have no fact to back this up) that this may be a common problem with the 450's, so if anybody has an answer for me i'd be really appreciative.

When listening to any audio coming through the headphones, whether it be during recording or payback, it always has a very distinct echo to it... almost as if its running straight from the mic aswell as spererately through some sort of onboard mixer.

Its not there when the tape is played through a seperate vtr so has no consequence on the recording itself, but its just very annoying.

I hear that this effect can somehow be turned off, but cannot find it in the extended menus. If anybody has any advise you could make a lot of people happy here.

Wondering if there might be a blend going to the headphone jack from the direct input stage and the E-E (Electronics to electronics - off the heads) stage? The E-E would be slightly delayed and therefore, if my "theory" is correct, cause an echo?

Are you listening to a summed mono mix of a person's lav on one channel and the camera mic on the other?

When I've used these new Sony's the headphone return was delayed compared to the audio in. Maybe you are getting a mix of both from your mixer. There is latency in the return which must be from the digital circuits. I have heard that using the line out as a return gives god return/safety monitoring.
