Go lossless

Disk is CHEAP.

I also prefer listening to vinyl played through a tube amp (valves to us down here). But I am re-ripping all of my CDs in the Apple lossless format. I CAN hear the difference. Or at least I think I can, and that's what it is all about.

I know I can hear the difference between 12k and lossless; I can hear less difference between 256 and lossless. But given that disk is so cheap, just go lossless.

Lossless is truly that - you aren't losing any of the content. You can re-constitute the original CD from a lossless format.

I can still store 250 CDs on my iPod, and honestly, that's more than enough for a listening session. I now use a single hard disk to store all CDs.

By the way: Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. My wife signed off on $1,200 speaker cables because they sounded better . . .
