GL2 vs. PVDV953 sound quality
 

Does anybody care to give their opinion on the difference of audio quality of audio recordings between the 2 models ? Naturally I lean towards the GL2, but I was wondering if the sound quality depended more on the camera or the mics used. I have Core-Sound mics and main usage is capturing live music in small venues. Reading the posts here , I realize there is much to learn . Thanks in advance for any info.

They both have good audio. All you'd need is a XLR adaptor and a good mic.

now the gl is an awsome cam, but im using a MX500 with the VMS2e mini shotgun and with this, i have to say compared to my my mates GL audio recording (we were filming v8's on the 2 cams) the MX picked up a broader freq range but was a lil lacking in the higher ends.
The mic was in stereo mode (its a 5.1 project so stereo was a must) with wind cut off, but i dont know the GLs settings...
Comparing the 2, (even with the attachment on the MX) i have to say the lower ends were punchier, and the pickup was alot "cleaner".
Thats not to say the GL sound is lacking, it isnt, the difference is minimal...

the decision in the end is about money... and how much your willing to spend.

Just to add, the audio is much improved with the GL2 compared with the GL1.

I am finding that the audio capabilities on the GL2, particularly with the MA-300 XLR adapter, are exceptional. I am using both an SGM-2X shotgun mic, sometimes attached, sometimes on a boom, and a cheap Nady UHF diversity wireless lav system (only $199!). In both cases, the audio has been a pleasant surprise -- and I've recently shot a "documentary" interview at Ground Zero at the WTC in NYC with some pretty hairy ambient noises.
