Event Opal Audio Monitors
 

Hi,

I have had the Event Opals for just over a week and have about 6-7 hours on them. I am very impressed. At $3k for a pair of powered monitors, they are not for the low budget shops, but based on my experiences, they should cost more than they do.

If you are anticipating a studio monitor purchase, you really need to get in front of a pair of these to hear them before you decide what to get.

Hi Ty:

Any comments on the dedicated room mode analysis software/calibrated microphone package that is included? Also, are you using analog connections or did they provide some sort of AES/EBU connection?

What are your normal monitors and how do you compare these? I have had the Genelec 1031s for a long time, would take something totally amazing to make me sell them. ;-)

Hi Dan,

The D/A module and software are still in the shop. I can't go into very deep details at the moment because I have a commission to review them for Pro Audio Review.

I can say I'm astonished that a 7.1" driver can actually deliver enough low end to not require a sub. I thought the laws of physics prevented that. Apparently not anymore.

How much were the 1031? I can't find any price info on google. That's weird.

I bought the Genelecs in 1999, and if memory serves, I think I got them as b-stock for about $1,800.00 ea. which was very good considering the list on them at the time was $3,500.00 ea.

I run them alongside a set of 1029a with the small Genelec sub, they sound almost the same, just smaller.

The bass Technology on these new Events does seem to be pretty interesting. I run the Genelecs with a sub and they sound very good but it was a lot of money for the entire setup. Then again, its the typical thing, if I keep them for 20 years and use them daily, they were actually pretty cheap.

Looking forward to reading your review, I love new speaker technology. Getting deep bass from a small woofer is no small achievement.

Exactly! I was pretty much sold on the idea that anything under 12" required a sub. The 45Hz drum I plainly heard on the Opals (I later checked with a spectrum analyzer) was very surprising.
