Canon GL2: Juicedlink vs MixPre vs SD 302
 

Hello and thanks to all.

I'm having trouble with my DXA-8 XLR adapter and want to trade up. I can't find the "right" balance between the camera and Beachtek gain settings.

I read that the MixPre has Line level out only and I need Mic level. True? Adapter possible?

I'm willing to splurge on the SD 302 if I can directly connect its output to the Mic jack on the GL2. Is this possible without another XLR adapter in the chain?

I like the Juicedlink 4 input model with phantom (using a Sanken CS-1 shotgun) but am concerned about outgrowing it. What would I be giving up?

You can freely adjust the output of the 302 to any level all the was down to -56dBu so you don't anything further to use it into a mic level. You will need an adapter cable to connect the SD's XLR outputs to the minijack input on the camera but a straightforward adapter cable such as this one - Trew Audio - Cables, Connectors & Adapters - DV Cam Cables - DV Cam Stereo Input Cable - will do it.

The 302 gives you better metering with choice of ballistics, better limiters, high-pass filtering, finer level control, more flexible output options, headphone monitoring of both the mixer bus and the camera return, calibration tones and slate mic, phantom, t-power, or none mic power options, very high quality preamps, and built like a tank construction.
