Burning to CD in the field

Hi all. I've been looking for something that I can use as a stand alone to burn audio from compact flash to CD in the field, in the event I go with the Marantz compact flash recorder. So far the only stand alone writer I've found is this Apacer:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=306635&is=REG

Thing is, it looks to be only for photos. Any thoughts about whether or not it would record audio though it doesn't specify it can? Regular burners do either/don't care so I can't see why it wouldn't work. Could easily be missing something though. Am hopelessly ignorant about most things audio.

Thoughts?

I wish I had a recommendation for you. I tend to use my laptop for burning in the field, so can't really comment one way or another.

Looks interesting. I would think you should be able to dump the audio files on to cd no problem for storage purposes. If you needed to convert say MP2/MP3 files to an audio CD I dont think it will do that without the use of a computer and software. This link has some pictures etc.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Mainly I'm just looking for something that I can use as a back up/safety, offloading at night. I'll be in the sticks way up in the mnts. for a lot of weeks and I'm trying to come up with viable ways to protect what I'm getting during that time. Most of the audio will just go to the master DV tape, and I'm expecting that I'll bring all that in to the laptop/firewire drive each evening (I may be kidding myself that I'll have the chance to), so I was thinking that something that I could run while I was doing that, double-tasking with the other audio, would enable me to get at least a little sleep eventually.

In the end my non-existent budget may not allow for any of this. Will have to see. Am basically exploring how all this will go down/work best.

It WILL work, according to apacer

Awesome. Thanks, Marty. Good to know. (I couldn't tell from their web site.)

Thats why I called them.

Make sur eto get the Disc Steno 200 and not the 100 since the 100 will not let you backup anything greather then 650MB, but the 200 will prompt you to change disc as one is full and will continue to copy where it left off.
