Rode & Beachtek combo for jazz audio

I'm recording big-band jazz and have decided its past due to upgrade from using the built-in mic on the XL-1.

I want something simple to set up, and am thinking a stereo mic on a stand at the front of the stage is the way to go. Based on reviews and misc advice, I am thinking about the Rode NT-4 or Audio Technica 825. Any thoughts on the choice , and will either work without problems on the Beachtek DXA-4c?

Thanks,

eddie

The DXA-4c will not provide Phantom Power needed for the AT825.

Choose the AT822 instead or the Beachtek DXA-6

The AT825 will also run on an internal AA battery if you don't have phantom. I'd avoid the AT822 unless you have a specific need for an unbalanced connection over short cables. You could do this directly with the XL1 since it does have unbalanced mic connections, but I'd rather invest in an XLR balanced mic and the adapter to make more stable connections and give you some level control before hitting the camera inputs.
I have an AT825. It's very good for a wide stereo ambient pickup.
I haven't used the NT-4, but based on my experience with other Rode mics, they are excellent. The Rode will be quieter, have more sensitivity and a higher maximum SPL rating.

Jay,
You are right about the AA, I don't know what made me think that it is Phantom only ?

Thanks for the good advice. I went with the Rode, based on the good specs, and good advice. Fiddling with it and the Beachtek to get accustomed to it this week, I think it's a great set up.
