Shure SM7B with Edirol R09HR

I'm looking for a good portable package to record (final destination) podcast quality presentations on client premises, and even the audio equivalent of 'run-and-gun' or 'in the middle of a field' material.

The Edirol and SHure SM7B seem to be, on paper, an interesting mix (no pun intended), though I guess it will require a little finesse in post. But less so than my current setup.

Previously I've used STP on my MacBook Pro Edirol UA25 with a range of mics (Sanken CS1, COS-11, Sony ECM 77, AKG-230, even a Coles Lip Mic) without pre-amplification beyond the UA25, but it's all got a little big and messy and the final result still needed a little something, and to be honest, I was still missing a nice strong signal in the first place.

The Edirol has been a fantastic little unit, but it doesn't Phantom Power and would love to step up from the internal mics - which are wonderful (don't get me wrong) but not perfect in every situation.

I have been considering the Rode NT-3, but having suddenly 'discovered' the Shure on the web, would love to hear anyone's thoughts on it.

Cheers in advance....

The SM7 requires a ton of clean gain, and I don't know if the Edirol has a preamp that can drive it.

Aha. Good call. The UA25 can barely pull something out of a Coles Lip Mic...
