Broomstick as a makeshift boom pole...

Alright, I'm a newbie and I made a boompole out of a stupid Broom stick. It works alright, except that my ME66 mic picks up ALL finger taps and vibration on the stick. This is annoying.

Do professional boom poles have the same problem? Or, are they anti-vibration? Can someone recommend a good general boom pole for the ME66 shotgun mic? Thanks!

Professional boom poles don't transmit all the noise, no. Using a good shockmount helps even further.
Look, if it was easy to make a good boom pole, everyone would be doing it... :-)
You can build a lot of the gear needed for video production on the cheap, but this really isn't one of them. Lots of people like the lightbulb-changing poles too, but they don't work as well as a good dampened boom. It's all about the level of quality you want your work to be.

The Gitzo 557 that I just bought looks really good. Its carbon fiber (not internally wired though). There is a post on it further down where people talk about it. It is very light!

Oh so I need a kick ass shock mount too! I do have the $30 shockmount from Sennheisser....but I think it sucks...

George, the Gitzo "looks good" or "sounds good?" :-)
Nick, a good shock mount isn't too expensive, sounds like you have the Senn that uses the fat rubber bands? They're not bad...it might just be your pole.

Slip of the tongue there, but I'm also taken more by the cool looks of this thing and the lightness.
