I think the PSC DV ProMix3 is the lowest cost good field mixer that has switchable inputs and outputs. I haven't used one yet and it lacks some of the other features of the MixPre.

The mix pre is very compact and built like a brick outhouse. Unless you get really fancy it will perform most basic functions and at half the price of the 302. Click here for Mix Pre

If you can afford it the 302 has so much more. All of the functions are software selectable. The mix pre can be linked to the 302 or the 442. 302 Review

The PSC unit is a fair bit larger than the Mix pre, has 3 inputs that are switchable between line and mic level. It doesn't seem to have mid , side decoding Cost is $495 Click here for promix 3

Read the review here, but one of the things noted of the Promix 3 is it's strange selection of output levels. Mic level output is -50dbV and line level is 0dbU. Normally pro line is +4dbU and mic level would be better at -35dbV.

Do to it's weight and size, it's the premix, (alias Shure FP24), for me for the field work that I am doing.

Those output levels for the ProMix3 would however make it perfect for the Panasonic DVX-100A. That's exactly the levels it's looking for.

Jay, that's quite funny. I went and looked up the manual on the DVX and you're right - that's good news for DVX people.

Does the DVX not have a MIC ATT option?

The DVX-100a has a menu setting for mic levels of -60db or -50db.
So it's not as wide range as the MicATT switches on Sony and Canon cameras. Of course this is kind of irrelevent since you'd use the line setting with the mixer, unless the PSC doesn't have individual switches on the outputs and you also had to feed something with no choice except mic level.
