Just stupid people asking them. I am one such fellow. Here's my question. I'm getting ready to get a sound package. My buddy is a sound guy on commercials/features and I'm buying some gear from him...a mixer and a wireless system. So what I need to buy is a boom pole, shotgun mic, and mounts for the shotgun onto boom & camera and a mount for the wireless onto camera. And advice on boom poles...aluminum vs carbon, cabled or non, ect. I'd like to spend about 500 or less for the boom and the mounting stuff.

I'm getting a sennheiser MKH-416 or mkh 60.

Why not ask your friend? No offense, but if you're a moron, he's right there to assist you in choices.
It's gonna be hard to get a mic, mounts, and good pole for sub 500.00, but there might be some used gear he's got access to. Also, who is gonna run it for you?

I just want to get the pole and mounts for under 500. I'm figuring on spending approx 1000 on the mic. I will ask my guy about this stuff, but he talks so fast and knows so much that I 'get' about 10 percent of what he says. Also, I need a camera mount for the xl2 for the mic, and he does pretty much 100% film work so he's not going to know much about that. I've seen that thing on BH where it's a grip/mount/boom thing for sennheiser mics, but I can't tell if it works for camera too. Thanks in advance for all responses and sorry for not being clear before.

It's not kosher hanging a $1450 mic (MKH60) from a cheap boom pole and shock mount.

There has been considerable discussion on these topics and as recently as the past 24 hours. Some of these replies take the person the better part of an hour so it would be nice to recycle them. I'd advise soing some searches using the word "boom" or "shock mount"

Matt Gettemeier has posted several times on the topic of affordable boom poles.

I've been searching the forums and can't seem to find what I really want to know...so I'll simplify the question here. How should I hook the mic to a boom pole and to my camera? Will this product do both?

That's one option but I use a K-Tek GPS as well as a KSSM

The reason that i suggested searching Matt's comments was not to be a smart ass. He has done considerable research and was impressed by the K-Tek Avalon poles.

I opted for the Van den Burg Carbon Fibre with the internal wiring

What kind of camera do you own and what are you looking to get into so far as a pre or mixer. It's hard to advise when you don't know what camera we're talking about.

I'm using a canon XL2, a psc mixer, a sennheiser mic, and a sennheiser wireless system.

I've just got to find out the best way to mount all this gear to camera and to boom pole.

The sennheiser product I posted before (combo grip/boom/mount). Can you tell if that works for a camera mount?

For a camera mount use a KCAM-SM for $75 at B&H.(click) As a general mount for the MKH60, I love the GPS.(click)

It's $155 at B&H and it' like all of Manfreds stuff is machined from aluminum, minimalist and well thought out.

To be honest your better off using a mighty wondercam Mini Rover and either the KCAM-SSM or the GPS with a shoe adapter.

The Mini Rover keeps the mic off the camera and gives you a balanced feel. Something to hang onto and believe it or not the Mini Rover will aid your handheld stability. Ya gotta try it.

Look at k-tek's Avalon boom pole line. (click here) I've heard great things about both. the aluminum and graphite versions.

Now all of this stuff has been posted. I know cuz i posted it. it takes a fair bunch of time to do and only minutes to search.
