XLR to minijack
 

I have just purchased the MYA30G XLR adaptor for my Panasonic DVC30 camcorder. I also have a Sennheiser MKE300 microphone which is fitted with a stereo minijack.

I am looking for information on making up an appropriate adaptor cable - I have bought an XLR plug and cable, but am unsure of what to put on the other end and how to wire it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

that's nearly what I'm after but not quite - I need an XLR male to mini female.

I'm not sure if the female can be mono or stereo and, if stereo, how to wire it.

However, thanks for the link to Hosa - one of their dealers is in my state! I'll contact them and see if they have a ready made cable to suit!

I made one.
Just go to an electronics shop and but some digital cable, a male XLR and a female mini.

Bit of soldering later...and you’ve got yourself an adaptor :)

edit: didn’t read it all properly you need to connect the sleeve on the female to the sleeve on the XLR. Then other two, but it won’t be balanced, so I don’t think it will matter which way round they go.
The guy at the shop gave me a brief diagram.
It was probably just lucky that I got them the right way round.

(Could you tell me level of electronic knowledge form that reply? scary isn’t it)

Thanks Richard - I know I could have just given it a go - but I didn't want to 'fry' anything.

I'm still not sure if I need a stereo or mono mini. I know the mic is mono, but it has a stereo jack on the end - I guess the two segments of the jack are wired together (non technical terminology is me showing my lack of knowledge!!)

Woo Hoo - I read, I soldered and I recorded!!

That's an important part of audio. i have 3 pencil irons, two third hand type vises two mounted magnifiers and a desk lamp with a built in magnifier.

Even a half blind old gimp can solder and assemble.

Do not use one of those soldering guns. i'm not even sure why they were even producred in the first place. Maybe automotoive but certainly not for anything electronic.
