Wireless system
 

Ive been using the onboard mic on my GL2 and need to switch to a mic system for my films. I do puppet films, this involves being behind objects to hide the fact of no legs, so you can imagine sounds not to good on the camera. I need to know if its worth going wireless or wired and what brands you recommend. Im thinking wireless because I need to get headsets, and with up to five puppets on camera that would be alot of wires. So does anyone have any ideas?

Sony, sennheiser and others make lav transmitters that will work just fine. Each receiver will of course be tuned to it's own channel. Then, you will need a mixer with the needed count of xlr in. These 10 channel boards aren't too bad. Mackie for mid price, behringer for economy. Once you get the levels set, it's xlr into the cam. A compressor is nice to have in between if your talent have a hard time staying level.

If 5 lav packs and receivers are out of reach, a couple of well placed shotguns placed in the wings, if that is what the non-viewed area of a puppet theatre is referred to as, will suffice.

I'm imagining your hands are usually quite full. My suggestion is, yes, wireless, and Countryman E6 headworn mics.

My biggest issue is there a difference in the sound quility between the two (in doing this for shorts in a every day enviorment), and also would I get choppy sound or dead air due to the fact of being behind object during the filming?
