Great article, Francois, thanks! Will be chewing on that one for a while. If there are, for that matter, any quintessential books on microphones and/or technique, I would love to know of them...

The Rode looks to be a magnificient microphone. It has definitely made it's way to the top of the stereo mic list. Does anyone have handheld experience with this mic? Can it be used with a naked hand, or is a grip system an absolute must?

Shawn, if you are considering a two-mic set-up, and since you have access to phantom power, then you might want to have a look at the Rode NT5 pair.

They are smaller and lighter (half the weight of the NT4), and can be used individually for other purposes.

I think the capsules are the same as the NT4’s, but I am not sure about this.

Thanks for the NT5 tip. I have two ME64s, and if it's easy to rig them for handheld, I might also try that.
