How about a Korg D12? It has several inputs/outputs, both analogue and digital, as well as a 20 gig HD for capture and storage. They can be had for less than $1000 these days.

?Maybe you're looking at something like a control surface, where you move the faders on the board and it moves the faders within the audio application you are using. I'm not sure if Premiere Pro or Audition has control surface support.

2- If you want just an analog mixer (which you wouldn't use for mixing, but you would use it for its preamps for VO and for simplifying wiring in your studio) then get a Behringer UB-series mixer. It's excellent value because it rips off Mackie's design (and Mackie mixers cost around 2-3X the cost of an equivalent Behringer mixer).

Well, if you have lots o cash to spare, you can always pick up Pro Tools with the Digi002 mixing board.

Premiere Pro isn't supporting surfaces yet, so I'd just go into a standard Mackie or similar mixer. Smaller footprint is usually better in a vid desk, look at Mackie's new Tapco devices. Cheep, small, quiet.
Also, Rolls has some decent offerings these days.
