Deadening warehouse
 

We've got a shoot coming up in a warehouse that's maybe 60 feet square. There are boxes of refrigerator parts in there that help disperse the sound some, but I did a few tests and echo is going to be a huge problem. I had originally considered throwing up some Owens Corning 703, but it's not really in the budget for the amount we'd need, and the dealer isn't even sure if he can get it in time. Since the director only wants to shoot in one corner, with the camera limited to facing one direction, I'm now thinking about surrounding the area with sound blankets hung from two by fours that are gaffer taped to light stands. Will this help? Would it be best to work folds into the sound blankes (kind of like the way a curtain looks in the retracted position), or just hang them flat? The ceilings are about 11 feet high, and my stands won't go quite that high.

I can't count the number of times we've thrown furni pads onto boom arms on c-stands to act as sound dampers. Yes, it's a 'workable' solution. Like I said, furni pads, blankets, they can all be used to help deaden the sound. They work best if they are not 'flat against' a wall, but have a bit of dead air behind them and the wall. They can also be used to cover or deaden a noise making sources. (Refrigerators that can't be turned off) Things like that.
