Graham,

The title of your post makes no sense. But to answer your question, using the adaptor can be a pain in the neck for hand-held. Your hand will be resting on knobs or the XLR cable (whichever way you have it screwed onto the camera).

at897 or me/66 with fx1

which mic would be better for the fx1 since i have read good things for both but not a comparison.

Do a search on these forums and you will find lots of reviews and comparisons.

What you'll sift out of the comments and reviews that you find is that the ME66 is more sensitive and a bit more effective at isolating a sound source at a distance, but that the AT897 is judged by some hands here to be sweeter sounding. Personally, I'd be inclined to go with the AT897, especially since the DXA-8's preamps level the playing field on sensitivity.

Fred that makes sense, I can't believe I didn't even question that. I also like that I don't have to buy the power accesory for the at897. Appreciate it.

The me66 sounds like you are talking inside of a tin can.

"The me66 sounds like you are talking inside of a tin can."

That is just plain not true.

Ive used both for a while now. They got strong points and weak points. I like the AT897 a little better then the ME66. Especially for the price.

I agree.. The me66 is much more expensive. I personally own a at897 and it's a great mic! I did a bunch of research on this forum prior to purchasing the 897 from BHphoto. The shotgun depends on the application. I use it for weddings and interviews and it works great!
