AT897 on-camera?

I currently own a Sennheiser MKH-416. While the mic sounds great up on a boom, I find it's way too sensitive to use on-camera. It picks up sounds I can't even hear. Would the AT897 be better to use on-camera, or will it be just as sensitive? I'd mainly be using it for wedding receptions.

Thanks

Denis,
I use to use a ME66 for weddings and run and gun corporate functions. Hot mic on a hot circuit. I tried a 416 and found the same as you. Then I tried the 897 and absolutely love it. Mellower than the ME66-not as sensitive as the 416-IMO it just has a nice sweet sound. I've used it on both the PD150s and a JVC5000 and it sounds good with either camera. I'm very pleased with the results.
Just one mans opinion!

hi,

i can't speak of the technical specs of the mic as i'm not all that clued up on audio but I have a 897 on my PDX10P (which was recommended by members of this board).

it works quite well, hepas better than my standard shotgun that came with the camera. i too have used it for weddings. it seems reasonably directional. put it this way, no one has complained about my audio from this mic & it sounds really good to me when i playback my tapes.

i'm sure theres other on here who can speak of the tech specs though...

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna go with the AT897. It seems like a real nice mic for the price -- which works out well after dropping a grand on the 416.
