Zoom MRS-1608 Sound Mixer
Does anyone have any information or experience on this sound board (Zoom MRS-1608 Sound Mixer). I like the 40gig hard drive and 8 channel recording on it. I do not follow the audio industry, so any insight on multichannel "mobile" recording would be great. I use Adobe Audition as my sound editor, and would also like to know if this board or any similiar boards would interface with Audition. Here is a link to the Zoom product page:

I don't have experience using this exact workstation, but I've used something like this. Yes, it has a big hard drive, but there's no convenient way to interface it with a computer; it's meant to be an all-in-one solution, and so it's not very flexible. To get usable audio files out, you'd have to burn each track to a cd-r; I don't think you can even pull the HD out, since it would be formatted to work with the proprietary system.
If you're still looking for something like this with a little more flexibility, Korg makes workstations with a USB port, so you can import and export .wav files: http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_...&category_id=3 They have workstations with more and less tracks, but this is the general idea. What's the application for this gear? There may be a better solution than one of these. |
The one thing you want, is battery power. I had a Korg 12 track, and it was nice. But, you had to plug it into a wall to power it.
Most of these will have an audio out, which you can run to your mic in, and do realtime capture. Or, as previously stated, burn the audio to cd and transfer. |
the zoom board does have usb connection through an expansion board. the interface is not my main concern though. I want a simple to use board and mobile. I would like to capture all eight channels and mix later, i then could probably transfer via optical sound connection or just write to a cd. Would this be a good setup for what I want to do or is there a better solution for multichannel sound recording?
