Microphones for GL2
 

Hi all,

I'm looking for an affordable microphone with XLR connector. I have to be honest, i'm a deaf man so i'm having a hard time looking for one.

Any suggestions?

Get the audiotechnica 897 for $279 @ b&h w/kit. Or sennheiser me66 w/k6 for about $410 from them.

Also, what are you generally trying to record? And do you already have an XLR adapter?

I'm trying to record actors interior and exterior. Interior, It's all taking place in the kitchen and exterior, it will be in small town in Italy. Mostly in the street.

Yes, i already have an xlr adapter for my gl2.

Would you recommend me 88 for that situation? I'm aiming for 3d sounds.

Out of curiosity, what xlr adapter are you using?

it really depends on your budget. i think the audio technica at-4073 is the best all-around short shotgun for the money. it costs $550- at b&h. but i don't know if that's "affordable" to you. a lot of pro sound guys won't wipe their butts with any mic that costs less than $1000. if the 4073 is out of your range, the at 897 and the rode ntg-1 seem to be the preferred models in the $2-300 range.

typically i say you should listen to a couple and see what you like, but that probably doesn't work in this case. are you working with a soundman?

also, you say you want it to sound "3D." typically, this type of sound-space manipulation doesn't happen during recording, but afterwards in the sound mixing stage.

Is there any chance that I can rent the microphone kit? Like Id rather buy just a microphone. Not the boom pole and all that.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't, but that's up to the person in charge on renting out equipment.
Iam about to do the same kind of work & I have been looking at the Azden Shotgun mike through B&H.
Also, instead of a boom pole you can rig a painter pole to hold a shock mount for about 15 Euros.

Shotgun mics on booms are not as good for interiors as hypercardioids. In your case, the AT 4053.
