Need Mic for Man-on-the-street Interviews

Those of you who have done this, what handheld microphone would you recommend for doing man-on-the-street interviews? Sound will be recorded directly to tape on the XL2.

Thanks!

You can use any close talk dynamic mic designed for voice recording. I always carry my trusty EV (Electro Voice) 635A in my bag. It's compact, sounds great and I can always use it to bang in a nail if I have to.

BTW: It's also 33 years old and they still make 'em today!

yeah the ev 635a is THE classic man on the street mic. they're cheap new, and cheaper used. used is fine since they're indestructible. get a windscreen too.

If you want a step up, the RE-15 (also Electro-Voice) is a way to go. Unlike the EV-635a, the 15 is cardioid. It can help you get more man and less street.

Cheers,

Jay,
Shure vp 64l- around $90
Ev 635- around $120- tried,true and trusted.

Ev re-50- What lots of sound guys use- around $200.

I've been using a 20 year old AT 813 card, and it sounds fine.

The re50 is a 635 in a shockmount configuration with built in wind screen. Works well.. I use a Sony ECM 510.
