Oktava MK12 wind protection
I have an Oktava MK12 and a Baby Ball Gag Windshield but still too much wind noise in many outdoor situations.
Would a Rycote Windjammer that fits over the BBG be the next step up in wind protection or is there a better alternative? thanks in advance |
Due to the shape of the capsule, wind may be entering though the rear of the windscreen or even at the XLR connection. Stuff up or tape over those points and it may help. I have a Windtech 'Ultrascreen US-2' which works 'OK' though I rarely use the 012 outdoors. In any case those mics are very sensitive to wind AND handling. A good shotgun with a Softie or blimp is the norm for exteriors.

AS Rick points out, the MK012 is a better indoor mic than outdoor.
But yes, the Dead Cat would be the next step with the BBG in wind noise reduction. All the Best! |
Thanks guys, appreciate your feedback :)

Howdy Greg,
You HAVE to have the BBG/Windjammer combo if that mic is heading outdoors. Take care, Sean |
Hi Greg,
Yes, I have a Rycote BBG and Rycote windjammer and it does help, some... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/322367-REG/Rycote_021801_Windjammer_for_Baby_Ball.html But as others say, the MK012A is a very sensitive mic and in a windy environment no comparison with my Senn MK416 with a zepphelin and windjammer. Good luck, Michael |
I've clamped an OktavaMod MK-012 to a bicycle inside a BBG + windscreen and had no problems up to around 15mph.
