I almost switch to Tascam DR-100... if this update was 3 days late...

Thanks for the heads up - I have now upgraded.

BTW the link didn't work for me - I had to go to ZOOM, wait for ever for it to load and navigate from there. (It might be the flash intro to the zoom website that's the prob.)

J.J. Kim November 19th, 2010 11:50 AM

the link has been fixed.
thanks for letting me know!

I start the download and it completes but the file is not in the directory I downloaded it into. Anyone else having this problem?

Bob Hart November 19th, 2010 07:35 PM

Thanks for the lead.

WOW, this is huge! That's an impressive upgrade! The Zoom H4n has now officially become the best recorder. Thanks for posting the news.

Chris Medico November 23rd, 2010 09:42 AM

Thanks for the heads up. Updated mine this morning.

Erik Andersen November 26th, 2010 03:22 PM

Thanks JJ, this is great. My Tascam DR-100, which I smashed to pieces, just rolled over in its grave. Now I'm buying another Zoom.

Manuel Coronado December 4th, 2010 01:16 AM

I'm having issues with the firmware upgrade. Successfully installed it. Now I cant change it from Stereo to 4CH. It appears like that option was deleted from the menu. Searched everywhere and cant find it. Was wondering if anyone else was having that issue. Is there somewhere where I can download a previous version of the firmware? Thanks.

Erik Andersen December 4th, 2010 02:50 AM

Not seeing that problem with my Zoom. Strange. Maybe something went wrong with your firmware update. May need to reset the unit (don't ask me how) and reinstall the firmware.

I've tried doing the factory reset 3 times. All it does is reset your settings to the original excluding the firmware. The firmware remains the same. I've tried re-installing the firmware various times, with the same result. Just with there was a previous version of the firmware I could download.

Note that this update only affects the INPUTS, as noited in the first post, not the onboard mics, whose levels are still ganged together. Still a very nice update.

H4n Recorder Firmware update issue

I have the same problem.I updated to firmware 1.7 and everything seamed normal, but when i go to the menu, some of the feature are gone.I can't find the mode button, and others.i can't switch to mp3 or wave, and i can't switch to 4 channels or MTR mode. How do you restore this thing?

Russ Ivey December 31st, 2010 04:01 PM

Same problem

I'm having a similar problem too. I followed directions just like it said, but it doesn't give me the added feature it says it would. Also, what is this about turning the power on with play/pause button???? That doesn't work!!!

Colin McDonald December 31st, 2010 04:54 PM

Are you sure you read that correctly?

How to update the system software

4) Then turn power on while holding down the [PLAY/PAUSE] key.

5) Move the cursor to “OK” by using the [DIAL].

6) Push the [DIAL] to start the system update.
You omitted the "while holding down" bit.

If your unit has stamina switched on, you can't access the 4 ch. Turn the stamina off.

Luciano Alexandresco January 1st, 2011 01:05 PM

Problem solved

Warren, turning stamina off worked. It seamed that with the 1.6 firmware, before i updated, this menu showed with the stamina mode on.But i might be wrong!:-)
Thanks for your help!

I held it down Colin for several seconds. It doesn't turn the device on.

Mark Watson January 1st, 2011 04:56 PM

Russ,

To put it another way....

1. Press and hold the PLAY/PAUSE button.
2. Actuate the power slide switch.
3. Once the unit turns on, release the PLAY/PAUSE button and power switch.

Russ Ivey January 2nd, 2011 06:46 PM

Mark

Thanks Mark!! That was exactly what I needed. It rebooted and everything is working fine now.
